Woofingham Palace is operated by Samantha & Jon Mears. They are both originally from London, England and moved to California 11 years ago.
Samantha Mears is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT KA) She passed the CPDT KA exam with Distinction. The CPDT Examination is the only formal dog training qualification available in the USA. Though there are millions of people who call themselves Dog Trainers, less than 3000 of them have taken and passed the CPDT exam. To be able to sit this exam the Dog Trainer has to have spent 300 hours teaching Dog Training Classes or in Home Training. They also need a written referral from a Vet recommending them as a Dog Trainer. The exam itself lasts 4 hours and has 400 questions. What makes Samantha stand out from other Trainers in the area is that, unlike many Trainers who may only have 2-3 Training Sessions per week, she works with dogs every day at Woofingham Palace. In fact she has worked with dogs every day for over 10 years. They say you need 10,000 hours of practice at anything to become a professional at it. She has over 20,000 hours. She specializes in Puppy Training & Socialization.
She is a professional Member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT). She attends their yearly Conference, regularly attends Lectures and Educational Seminars and has studied with some of the leading Trainers and Behaviorists in the world, in order to always be completely up to date on the latest ideas and methods related to Dog Training. She is also qualified Canine Good Citizen Evaluator and a Professional Member of the Pet Professional Guild. (PPG)
She is dedicated to positive reinforcement training which makes teaching your dog a joy and not a chore. Whether teaching basic obedience or resolving complicated behavior issues, she focuses on teaching owners how to work with their dog, so the dog quickly responds to them and not just the trainer.
She believes that happy dogs make better learners and only uses techniques that are based on the science of how animals learn and are enjoyable for both the dog and the owner. She never uses choke chains, electronic/shock collars, pinch collars, constant leash corrections or any punishment based aversive techniques. Her training is effective, modern and dog-friendly. It will teach your dog new or alternate behaviors in a way that is neither cruel to the dog and will never undermine the relationship between the dog and their owner.
This humane, positive and scientifically sound approach makes it easy for you and your dog to succeed.
